Bright Future

The night was long and dreary.

Clouds cloaked the night and raindrops did pour

As if the sky had become teary.

Shadows were long and a cool wind bit at your

Thin cover of skin as the sound of spring showers

And scent of damp leaves and soaked soil

Surrounded your senses. Leafless trees reached up like towers

Toward the dismal night sky with branches that twisted and coiled

But the harsh downpour had begun to soften around you

And the breeze, though now more gentle, still blew.

Then finally,

A sunrise.
